Happy V-Day, help stop violence

An all-student production of the critically acclaimed theatrical production “The Vagina Monologues” will take place at Portland State on Feb. 14, 15 and 16. The production is part of the V-Day 2002 Campus Campaign. Like many other participating colleges, PSU’s V-Day campaign will consist of the “Vagina Monologues” and also a silent auction and art show of local artist’s depiction of the Vagina. The “V” in V-Day stands for Victory, Valentine and Vagina. All proceeds of V-Day events go to local groups that work with women and domestic violence. Proceeds from PSU’s production and art show will benefit the Portland Women’s Crisis Line. The student-produced performances of “Monologues” will include a diverse group of PSU women and will be similar to the national version which discussed questions often pondered, but seldom asked. The performances will take place at 7 p.m. in the Smith Center Ballroom. Tickets are $12 for non-students and $7 for PSU students.

What are you going to do with that degree?

If you are a Liberal Arts major and wondering what kind of work, if any, awaits you after college, there are a number of upcoming workshops that may prove helpful. These workshops are the beginning of a series that will later include workshops geared toward humanities, social science and science majors. Topics will include career decision making and practical job search methods. The topic of today’s workshop is making the most of career information. Next week, on Feb. 15, the focus will be the important skill of resume writing. On Feb. 22, curious students can “ask the Career Counselor.” Next month kicks off with a workshop called “Famous Liberal Arts Majors & Liberal Arts Facts and Myths,” taking place on March 1. The question of the day on March 8 is why should I hire you? Plus other important interview questions. To find out more information visit the Career Center in Room 402 of the USB building or visit their Web site at www.career.pdx.edu. Their phone number is 503-725-4613.
