Life sciences building project moves forward
Portland State, Oregon Health & Science University and Oregon State learned last week that they will have the money required to begin construction of the Collaborative Life Science Building, according to an article published by The Oregonian on May 4.
The planned 250,000-square-foot building, which will be built on the South Waterfront, will house PSU’s chemistry and biology departments, OSU’s pharmacy school, OHSU’s medical and dental education programs and a cancer research center.
According to The Oregonian, the project sold $110 million in bonds, and the three universities involved will contribute $190 million. In addition, an anonymous donor on OHSU’s side gave $40 million, and OHSU will invest $30 million for the cancer research center.
TriMet will also contribute $10 million to construct a new light-rail station on the campus, according to the article.
The building is scheduled to open by fall of 2013.
