An over-the-shoulder pass from senior point guard Jeremiah Dominguez. A thunderous alley-oop dunk from senior guard Andre Murray or junior Phil Nelson. And dead-eye shooting performances from guards Andre Waters and Mickey Polis.
While the spectacle of the terrific plays has helped Portland State continue a wave of momentum as the squad prepares for the final few games of the regular season, the excitement behind the talented roster has energized the Stott Center on a weekly basis.
In light of this weekend’s NBA All-Star weekend in Phoenix, Ariz., the Portland State men’s basketball team revealed who they believe are the best suited players for the competitions held during the Saturday night showcase: The skills challenge tests players dribbling, passing and agility, while the dunk and three-point contests are the most heralded events of the entire weekend.
Many of the Vikings players have fond memories of past All-Star weekends.
“I remember when the game was in Oakland and I got to compete in a junior dunk contest. It was fun,” said junior forward Julius Thomas.
The Vanguard polled the players to find out who they thought would win the 3-point shootout, skills competition and slam-dunk contest.
