The staff at Smith Memorial Student Union is throwing a party inthe basement of the Union on June 8 and 9, hosting a variety ofevents to celebrate the closing of the old SMSU basement to makeroom for the new “Smith Underground” this fall.
The party will signify the kick-off of the construction of theold Viking Bowl and Billiards, which will reopen mid summer, andhave a grand opening for Fall quarter. The re-opening willcelebrate a newly remodeled Viking Bowl and Billiards, boasting thelatest in modernized bowling equipment.
The basement closure ushers in a host of new projects in SMSU’sstrategy to create a “social hub” for community on campus. Theconstruction kick-off event will begin the ball rolling towards thenew Viking Bowl & Billiards in the coming “SmithUnderground.”
The closure event will be from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. in the SMSUbasement, starting with free soda, popcorn and root beer floatsduring lunch hours. There will also be $1 games of bowlingincluding shoes, and $1 per hour billiards all day. Dollar pizzaslices with a free soda will be available from 6 p.m. until 8p.m.
The event is aimed at spreading the word and exposure for theold Smith basement closure and the opening of the new “SmithUnderground” in late summer and beginning of fall.
