Sadly PIPfest, like all good things, must come to an end. And that end is this week. PIPfest will finish up with Japanese New Wave and “Dance Like a Man”. Japanese New Wave is a collection of theatre, “pop” butoh and multimedia performances. The groups providing the collage of entertainment will be Op.eklekt, Yan-Shu and Nibroll, some of Japan’s most innovative and hippest groups. Op.eklekt will perform “Looking at Far East,” which explores Japanese culture through the perspective of space aliens. Also from an unearthly perspective is Yan-shu’s butoh dance piece “ZUNNJA” which concerns the dichotomies and differences in people. Nibroll’s “No Parking” will be a U.S. premiere and is the final piece in their trilogy of pieces concerning how cities affect the environment. “No Parking” a multimedia performance incorporating video and post-modern dance. Following Friday night’s performance there will be a talk back session with the artists. Performances of Japanese New Wave are Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21 at 8 p.m. in the Lincoln Performance Hall. Tickets are $18 for general admission, $14 for students/seniors and $9 for PSU students.
