Portland received high marks in several categories in a recent survey by CNN and Travel + Leisure magazine rating the top 25 cities across the United States for various areas of interest.
Portland received national first-place ratings for its public transportation system, environmental awareness, accessibility to the outdoors, pedestrian friendliness, public parks and the city’s overall look and feel.
The survey rated each city on nightlife, characteristics, food and restaurants, city layout, local culture, city residents, shopping and travel destination. Survey participants voted on specific characteristics within these categories, such as nightlife and worldliness of people. Over the course of three months, 60,000 votes were collected.
Portland also ranked third in the nation on gay-friendliness, behind New Orleans and San Francisco, and received second-place awards for level of quiet, cleanliness, coffee and farmers markets. The city ranked third in the overall population’s athleticism, as well as flea markets.
Portlanders received low rankings in attractiveness, ranking 18th out of 25, as well as diversity, ranking 19th out of 25.
