Portland sailor killed in Iraq

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (AP) – An Navy corpsman from Portland based at Camp Lejeune died after a roadside bomb exploded as he conducted combat operations, the military said Monday.

Hospitalman Aaron A. Kent died Saturday when the bomb exploded near Fallujah, the Defense Department said.

The Navy provides corpsmen, or medics, for the Marine Corps, which is part of the Navy.

A Navy spokesman said Kent reported to basic training in March of 2002 and joined the 2nd Marine Division in 2003.

Kent was assigned to 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), Camp Lejeune.
