In order to fund increasing program and payroll costs, the Children’s Center and Helen Gordon Child Development Center have decided to raise hourly and monthly rates. The programs are subsidized by the university, but needs for additional funding have caused the rate increase, according to information provided by Ellen Justice, director of the CDC.

The following changes will take place during the 2012–13 school year.

The Children’s Center, which is located in Smith Memorial Student Union, will be raising its student and faculty hourly rates. Hourly rates for toddlers will be rising from $4.70 to $4.75 next year for students and from $6.90 to $7 for faculty and staff. Additionally, preschool rates will be increasing from $3.90 to $3.95 for students and from $5.90 to $6 for faculty and staff.

The CDC will also be raising its monthly rates for students and faculty. Next year, the infant and toddler care rates will rise from $1,250 a month for faculty to $1,325. For students, there are two rates for infant and toddler care and both will be rising. One rate, which reflects 50 percent of the faculty rate, will be rising from $625 to $663. The other student rate, which reflects 70 percent of the faculty rate, will be increasing from $875 to $928.

Preschool rates at the CDC will change from $930 to $1,000 for faculty. For students, the 70/50 rates will be changing to $700/$500 respectively from $651/$465.

External community members will have an additional 10 percent added to their rates.

For those looking to invest in childcare, students receive priority when it comes to enrollment. “Two-thirds of the total enrollment slots are designated for student families; the remaining 1/3 are faculty/staff and external community,” Justice saidvia email.
