The Columbia-Willamette chapter of the international science association, Sigma Xi, met for their annual awards banquet last night.
Membership in the chapter consists of professors, scientists, students and community members from the Portland area and from local universities including, Portland State, Oregon Health and Sciences University, the University of Portland and Reed College.
Portland State professors won in all six categories for outstanding scientific research. The banquet included various speeches and awards, and former Oregon Secretary of State Bill Bradbury presented on the impacts of climate change in Oregon.
Outstanding Scientific Researcher Award Winners are all professors from Portland State and include: Leslie Hammer of the psychology department in the behavioral and social sciences category, Catherine de Rivera of the environmental sciences and management department in the biological sciences category, Mingdi Yan of the chemistry department in the physical sciences category, Alex Ruzicka of the geology department in the earth sciences category, Bin Jiang of the mathematics and statistics department and Robert Daasch of the electrical and computer engineering program in the engineering category.
