Dr. Morris Weitman, Professor Emeritus in the Portland State University psychology department, died on Friday, Nov. 25 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland. A military service will be held today at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
Weitman, who grew up on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, enlisted in the Army and fought in WWII, where he earned a purple heart after spending time as a POW.
After teaching at the University of Illinois, the University of Colorado and Western Washington University, Weitman moved to Portland to teach at the University of Oregon Medical School, which is now OHSU. In 1963, Weitman joined the faculty of PSU, where he remained for the duration of his academic career, retiring as a Professor Emeritus.
According to his daughter, Ruth Weitman Bath, Dr. Weitman was dedicated to the value of education throughout his life. The family said that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Morris Weitman PSU Memorial Fund.
