PSU to host Portland civic organization

Tomorrow, the City Club of Portland will hold a forum about its work and the organization’s mission.

“Essentially what we’re going to do is introduce the audience to City Club and its mission,” said Tony Iaccarino, research and policy director. “Its mission is to promote knowledge about civic affairs and civic engagement.”

Iaccarino and Jodi Heinz, chair of the membership committee, will speak about their programs. Among these is the Friday Forums show, a weekly educational program broadcast Friday nights on Oregon Public Broadcasting stations.

Iaccarino said City Club’s research programs will also be explained.

“We organize teams of volunteers to commit anywhere from two months to a year to researching and writing reports about key ballot measures and big public policy issues. Then we’re going to ask the audience what they think we should be covering and researching,” Iaccarino said.

The City Club of Portland serves as an independent, nonpartisan public affairs organization.
“We were founded in 1916 and are still kicking and still active,” Iaccarino said.
