Seibert named WAC Pitcher of the Week

For the second consecutive week and the third time this season, Portland State pitcher Morgan Seibert has been selected as the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.

The Viking sophomore chalked up her 17th and 18th wins of the season, against the University of Oregon and San Jose State. The wins mark the most victories by a PSU pitcher since her sister Shevaun Seibert had 19 in 1997, when PSU was still competing at the NCAA Division II level.

Seibert went 2-0 for the week with a 1.00 ERA. She allowed only two earned runs, two walks and 13 hits while striking out 12 batters in 14 innings.

In the 4-2 win over the Ducks on Wednesday, May 9, Seibert struck out eight, giving PSU its first season series win (3-1) against UO in 16 years.

On Saturday, Seibert held the Spartans to a single run. The Vikings were then able to climb back into the game to pull out a 2-1 victory.

Seibert finishes her season with an overall record of 18-19, a 2.30 ERA, eight solo shutouts and 215 strikeouts in 234.2 innings of work.

Seibert led the Vikings (26-35, 9-11 WAC) to a fourth-place league finish. In conference games, her ERA was 1.61 and opponents batted only .219 against her.

This season, Seibert set Portland State single-season records for games (41), starts (35), complete games (34) and innings pitched. After two years, she already ranks among the top 10 Viking pitchers all-time in wins, saves, strikeouts, shutouts, games, starts and innings pitched.

This week’s honor is the fourth WAC Pitcher of the Week honor of her career.
