First-year head coach Tara Bilanski had an opportunity to see the PSU soccer team in action last month. The Vikings, who went without a win in 2000, hope Bilanski will energize the program.
“There is still plenty of work to be done, but the team is adapting and starting to play with some confidence,” Bilanski said. “Overall, I think this team showed that they are much better than last year’s record.”
PSU opened its spring schedule with losses to the University of Oregon, 4-0, and Big Sky Conference rival Montana, 2-0, on April 7. Despite the losses, the Vikings showed improvement.
“Against Montana, I thought we played great,” Bilanski said. “We had six shots on goal and allowed just 11 against last year’s conference champion.”
After a 3-0 defeat at Oregon State on April 8, PSU began to exhibit solid play on both sides of the ball, earning a tie and a win the following weekend.
