Sound Tribe Sector 9 to turn ballroom into light fantastic
Sound Tribe Sector 9
Crystal Ballroom
Thursday,Nov. 8
9 p.m., $15
Sound Tribe Sector 9, a collective array of musicians and artists, brings its own special form of musical performance to the Crystal Ballroom stage Thursday night.
Rudimentarily classified as a “jam band” this group uses, mixes, overlays and integrates techno, electronic vibe, jungle beats, tape loops and exotic synch with their own earth funk jazz and rock rhythms.
If that doesn’t sound like sweet eclectic wait until the light show is incorporated into the milieu. Sound Tribe merges their transcendental sound with strobe lights and geometric projections to create visual artistry that enhances there “jamming.” Each venue is adapted anew to Sound Tribe’s present vision, making each performance a new and evolving work of art.
If nothing else can explain Sound Tribe and their sound, perhaps a statement off their press release can provide some enlightenment, if not into their music per se, at least in the message behind it.
“The Sound Tribe is a collective of musicians and artists who feel the high mission of any art is, by its illusions, to foreshadow a higher universal reality, to crystallize the emotions of time into the thought of eternity. We feel that a new understanding of vibration could usher in the next evolutionary step for this planet.”
Sound Tribe presents its next evolutionary step at the Crystal Ballroom, 1332 W. Burnside, Thursday, Nov. 8 at 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door or through Ticketmaster, 503-224-4400.
