WOMEN’S GOLF

Vikings place 13th at Mountain View Collegiate

Over spring break Rebecca Randolph and Bobbie Dunn tied for 34th individually in the Mountain View Collegiate Golf Tournament hosted by the University of Colorado. Portland State placed 13th out of 14 teams in the tournament.

The Mountain View Collegiate was played at the par-72, 5,934-yard Mountain View Golf Course in Tucson, Ariz.

Kansas State won the event with a 36-hole total of 597. The Vikings shot 644 over the two days, outplaying the only other Big Sky Conference school competing, Northern Arizona, by six strokes.

Randolph, a sophomore, and Dunn, a junior, shot matching rounds of 81-77 on Saturday and Sunday to lead the Vikings. Sarah Tiller, a redshirt freshman, shot 83-79 (162) to tie for 51st among the 75 golfers competing.

Walailak Satarak of UC-Irvine won the individual title with an even-par 72-72 (144).

The Vikings take a break until the Utah Dixie Classic, hosted by Brigham Young next week in St. George, UT.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Lackey, Boxley, Ivey earn honors

Anthony Lackey of the Portland State basketball team was named All-Big Sky Conference just before spring break. Earning honorable mention for the Vikings were Jeb Ivey and Seamus Boxley.

Lackey, a 6-foot-5 senior forward became a two-time All-Big Sky selection after leading the Vikings in scoring, rebounding, three-point shooting and steals for the second year in a row. Lackey averaged 16.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and made 70 three-point field goals.

Lackey moved into fourth all-time in scoring at PSU (1,288 points), 10th in rebounding (580) and first in games played (109) this season.

Ivey, a 6-foot-2 junior transfer from San Jose, Calif., finished the season averaging 13.0 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. Ivey hit 66 three-point field goals on the season and shot .980 at the line (50-51). He established a PSU record for consecutive free throws made (36).

Boxley, a 6-foot-7 sophomore forward, was co-Freshman of the Year in the Big Sky Conference 2001. This season he averaged 9.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and blocked a conference-best 34 shots. His blocked shot total is a new PSU season record.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Petticrew named to Big Sky All-Conference Team

Nikki Petticrew among an elite 12-member squad selected by the Big Sky Conference to receive all-conference honors. She is just the fourth Viking to receive the honor since PSU joined the league in 1996.

Petticrew led the team with 13.5 points a game, 48 three-pointers, .340 three-point percentage, .848 free throw percentage and 54 steals. She has also pulled down 5.1 rebounds a game and has recorded 40 assists and six blocks. She has scored in double-figures in 21 of the Vikings 28 games and has hit at least one three-pointer in every game but two.
