Morgan Seibert named PCSC Pitcher of the Week

Morgan Seibert, the senior right-hander out of Marysville, Wash., pitched both Portland State victories last week. Seibert shares co-pitcher of the week honors with Jaime Forman-Lau from Santa Clara.

The Vikings’ all-time strike-out leader pushed her total of wins to 11 for the year, with an impressive 7-1 conference mark. Leading her team on the mound last week, Seibert gained two victories at Loyola Marymount, currently the second-place team in the PCSC. Seibert struck out 21 total batters over the weekend and holds a 0.90 earned run average in PCSC play.

This weekend, Seibert and the Vikings will be back in action against Oregon State at home on Thursday. Then on Saturday and Sunday, the Vikings battle first-place Santa Clara for rights to a possible first-place finish in the PCSC.

Juston Wood signs with Minnesota Vikings

After the conclusion of the NFL draft, Juston Wood was able to speak with several teams interested in signing him as a free agent. The Vikings, a familiar mascot for the Portland native, came through, signing Wood to a free-agent deal.

Next week, May 9-11, Wood will travel to Minneapolis to participate in an NFL mini camp.

Last season, Wood finished with 2,211 total yards through the air, 13 touchdowns passing and one on the ground. Wood was able to impress NFL scouts when he took part in the East-West Shrine game in San Francisco and February’s NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

Wood ended his career at Portland State ranking sixth in total completions at 414, seventh in all-time passing yards (5,653) and seventh in touchdowns (37).
