The San Diego Padres added some infield depth, getting Rich Auriliafrom the Seattle Mariners for a player to be named or cash.

Signed as a free agent in January, Aurilia slumped this season.He hit just .241 with four home runs and 28 RBIs in his first yearin the AL. He was designated for assignment July 10, giving theMariners 10 days to decide what to do with him.

Aurilia, 32, hit 37 home runs with 97 RBIs in 2001 for SanFrancisco while batting in front of Barry Bonds.

NEW YORK (AP)
Hoping to bolster their bullpen, the New York Mets tradedoutfielder Karim Garcia to the Baltimore Orioles for reliever MikeDeJean.

DeJean was 0-5 with a 6.13 ERA in 37 games for the Orioles.After a poor start, he compiled a 4.05 ERA in June and July.

Garcia, 28, hit .234 with seven home runs and 22 RBIs in 62games with the Mets this year. He made 44 starts in rightfield.

CINCINNATI (AP)
Brandon Larson went on the 15-day disabled list with a strainedhamstring, the third time that the Cincinnati Reds’ star-crossedthird baseman has been hurt this season.

Larson pulled his left hamstring while running out a grounder onSaturday night, adding to his legacy of getting hurt. The formerfirst-round draft pick also has been disabled this season by turftoe and a torn thigh muscle.

Larson is hitting .212 with three homers. He has missed 41 gameswhile on the disabled list.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP)
Greg Rusedski’s streak of consecutive tiebreakers won was snappedbefore he recovered for a three-set victory over Thomas Johanssonin the opening round of the RCA Championships.

Rusedski advanced 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 6-4 by recording his secondservice break of the match in the final game. Rusedski won his 10thconsecutive tiebreaker, the ATP’s second-longest streak this year,but Johansson later ended Rusedski’s bid to match Andy Roddick’searlier run of 11 consecutive tiebreakers.

CARSON, Calif. (AP)
Chanda Rubin came from behind in the final set for a 6-1, 1-6, 7-6(5) victory over qualifier Marissa Irvin in the opening round ofthe JPMorgan Chase Open.

Earlier, Ashley Harkleroad won 6-3, 6-2 over Shinobu Asagoe.

Harkleroad is trying to recapture her form after a four-monthlayoff caused by a torn ligament in her right elbow.

No. 11 Francesca Schiavone, the highest seeded player in actionon the opening day of the tournament, moved into the second roundwith a 6-0, 6-3 win over Shenay Perry. But Akiko Morigami beat No.12 Silvia Farina-Elia 6-2, 6-4, and Anca Barna defeated No. 13Fabiola Zuluaga 6-1, 6-1.
