Daily Vanguard: Why did you choose to come to Portland State?
Aaron Woods: Because it was my hometown, and I played junior college at Santa Rosa, so it was like coming back home.
DV: If you could change one of your sport’s rules, what would it be?
AW: When a running back fumbles at the 20-yard line and goes to the back of the end zone, it’s still a touchdown instead of a touchback.
DV: What is your greatest strength?
AW: I would say my heart and my love for the game. Physically, I am 5 feet 5 inches, so I have to try harder than someone who is 6-foot-plus.
DV: What is your favorite place to eat around campus?
AW: Loco Locos. And my favorite on the menu would be the number 21. Its not official, I just made it up. I also like Baan Thai. It’s spicy, but it’s pretty good.
DV: What is the first item you would buy if you won the lottery?
AW: I would buy my mom a house, wherever she would want it.
DV: What is your most embarrassing on-field moment?
AW: When playing against UC Davis, I returned a kickoff and was about to score and I fumbled. The ball got poked out and went out of the back of the end zone and I missed the touchdown. That was pretty embarrassing.
DV: Do you have any nicknames? Why?
AW: “Ickey.” [Elbert L.] “Ickey” Woods was a professional football player, and my coach asked me if I was related to him and then he just started calling me “Ickey.”
DV: What was the last thing you cooked?
AW: A chicken club sandwich, two days ago.
DV: If you could attend one sporting event anywhere, what would it be?
AW: I would say the Olympics. They don’t play football in the Olympics, but I would love to see the other athletes, especially Usain Bolt running.
DV: What has been your favorite class at Portland State?
AW: Social work with Dr. Briggs. I am in my senior year and I want to get into social service after I graduate.
DV: What’s on your iPod right now?
AW: Dr. Dre, Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane. I’m into rap music.
DV: Do you read the Vanguard? If so, how often?
AW: I do read the Vanguard, every couple of weeks. I look at the sports and the comics.
