The student senate has a new pro tempore. Former Pro Tempore Heather Spalding resigned at Tuesday’s senate meeting, and nominated Ariel Shultz, a 23-year-old senior and history major, to be her replacement.
“Heather let me know she was going to resign and asked me if she could recommend me to the position,” Shultz said. “Everyone was fine with that and they voted me in. Several people said they felt I was doing a very good job. They said they felt like I would be up to the task.”
Shultz said she is eager to continue the projects the senate is currently working on, and also help prepare the new batch of senators that will be voted in when student government elections conclude May 4.
“I’m actually very excited,” she said. “We’re going to be working with next year’s senate, talking about what we did this year and what they’re doing next year. I think it’s a really good time and opportunity to finish up what we’ve been doing this year.”
