Students of Color Coalition Conference this weekend
The three-day event begins Friday evening in Monmouth and will feature three speakers including environmental activist and former Vice-Presidential candidate Winona LaDuke and Public Enemy member, Professor Griff. Over 300 students from the Northwest are expected to attend.
Over 40 workshops will be held over the extended weekend on topics ranging from “Understanding Hate Crimes: Causes” and “Solutions to Putting Color in the Rainbow,” a workshop on the interconnections between communities of color and queer communities.
A Queer People of Color session that will also to be held, according to the brochure to “allow queer students of color from all over the Northwest to meet one another, share experiences, and learn new skills.”
Attendees can choose seven workshops to attend over the weekend. Registration can be done online or in person from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Western Oregon and is $45. For more information visit the Oregon Students of Color Coalition at www.orstudnets.org/oscc.
