Portland’s longest-running mixed martial arts series is scheduled to continue Saturday night with a fight card featuring up-and-coming fighters from around the Pacific Northwest.
Hosted by the Full Contact Fighting Federation, Portland’s oldest and most well-known mixed martial arts promoter, Rumble at the Roseland 53 is set for Aug. 28 and will feature more than 20 bouts, including three fights with a championship belt on the line.
Current FCFF featherweight champion John Alden of TSN gym will defend his belt for a third time after a three-month hiatus. He is slated to fight Justin Mark of 503 West Coast Jiu Jitsu. Team Quest’s Chad James will also defend his FCFF belt as he takes on Sweet Home independent Rod Jaques. A late addition to the fight card came when a heavyweight title bout was announced last week between Damion Martindale of Alive MMA and Eli Pauls of the North West Warriors Fight Team.
A female undercard bout is scheduled between Liz McCarthy of Rise Above MMA and Janna Piper of Touch M Up MMA. Piper’s most recent FCFF match was a win by judge’s decision during Rumble at the Roseland 51 in May.
Heavyweight Corey Wyatt, an independent from Corvallis, also fought for the FCFF recently when he took down his opponent in just 24 seconds during last month’s Rumble at the Roseland 52. On Saturday, Wyatt will face Matt Cox of Team Quest in one of the undercard bouts.
The night will also feature live broadcast of the Ultimate Fighting Championship 118 in the downstairs bar. Patrons must be 21 years old to enter the viewing area, but there is no additional cost to watch the UFC event while attending Rumble 53.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and bouts are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Roseland’s upper level. The Roseland Theater is located at 6 NW Burnside. TicketsWest has general admission tickets available for $29 and front-row seats for $59.
The next Rumble at the Roseland is scheduled for Oct. 16, followed by Caged on the Coast 3 at the Chinook Winds Resort in Lincoln City. More information and tickets are available at www.thefcff.com
