Sweet dreams

Portland State University’s School of Fine and Performing Arts is bringing the sounds of Portland’s own Trio Spektrum to the stage in a production featuring live chamber music and modern dance. The show, “Dreams of a Dancer,” incorporates Spektrum’s music with the artistry of Polish-born choreographer Agnieszka Laska.

The music, written by Oregon composer and Spektrum pianist Tomas Svoboda in the hopes that it would someday be set to choreography, will be performed live on stage. Works by composers Jan Malek and Jack Gabel are also featured.

The show incorporates a dozen modern dancers, plus the Polish folk troupe Sobotka.

Laska weaves Czech folk flavor in each of the six dance pieces to match the mood of Spektrum’s music. The result is a sometimes haunting, sometimes joyful journey.
