The $2 million students

On June 23, Portland State University and Intel Corporation welcomed 28 new international students from five universities in Vietnam in a ceremony at the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science.

On June 23, Portland State University and Intel Corporation welcomed 28 new international students from five universities in Vietnam in a ceremony at the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science.

The 28 students from Vietnam are the recipients of the new $2 million Intel Vietnam Scholars program. The students, who are in their third year of college, will complete their Bachelor of Science degrees in electrical or mechanical engineering at Portland State and will return to Vietnam in June 2011 to begin engineering careers with Intel in Ho Chi Minh City.

Speakers at the event included: William Holt, senior vice president and general manager, Technology and Manufacturing Group at Intel; Rick Howarth, general manager of Intel Vietnam; Wim Wiewel, president of Portland State University; and Richard Knight, interim dean of the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science at Portland State.
