New university President Wim Wiewel sent out an invitation Thursday to a press conference scheduled for next Wednesday, September 10 from 4 to 6 p.m.

The press conference will be held in the Smith Memorial Union Center Ballroom, located on the third floor, and is slated to shed light on what “might be the biggest news in Portland State’s history.”

Students, faculty, staff and members of the community are invited to the reception, and invitations were sent out to many individuals outside the Portland State community.

“Invitations were sent out to selected donors, alumni, elected officials, faculty and staff,” said Scott Gallagher, Portland State director of communications.

Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served and complimentary parking will be available in Parking Structure 1, located on Sixth Avenue and Harrison.

The invitation, written in the form of a letter from Wiewel, says that the news cannot be revealed at this time but says there are, “moments in time that define an institution” and “we have arrived at just such a moment.”

At this time, no university officials contacted by the Vanguard are willing to hint at what the news may be.
