Denver, Colo. – First baseman Marissa Smith and shortstop Vanessa Applegate have been named to the All-Western Athletic Conference softball team, the league announced yesterday.
As a senior Smith was PSU’s second leading run producer with four home runs and 16 RBIs on the season. She started all 61 games at first base and had a team-best .984 fielding percentage. Smith leaves Portland State tied for second all-time in career home runs.
Applegate, a junior, came on very strong in the latter part of the season, batting .316 in 20 WAC games. The shortstop ranked fifth in the conference with four doubles. Applegate finished second on the Vikings in overall two-baggers with nine.
