A discussion on sustainability proposals on campuses countrywide, led by the executive director of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, will be held at Portland State Friday.

Judy Walton will speak at the event about which college campuses across the country are progressing with sustainable programs. Walton, who is also a visiting geography professor at PSU, will lead a discussion covering how PSU is progressing with sustainability issues.

The event is part of the ongoing Social Sustainability Colloquium sponsored by the PSU Working Group on Social Sustainability. The Colloquium, in its fourth year, will present events on sustainability issues throughout the year.

Marion Sharp, continuing education program specialist at PSU, said the goal is to raise awareness about social sustainability because it often falls behind economic and environmental sustainability in discussions.

The event will be held Friday, Nov. 9, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in room 296 of Smith Memorial Student Union.
