Two fresh faces on the Portland State volleyball team take the honor of being Co-Coaches Player of the Week. Sophomore Rachel Stevens and freshman Marla Morin took the award after strong showings over the last couple of weeks and against Eastern Washington University this past weekend.
Stevens, originally from Phoenix, Ariz., transferred from the University of Colorado to play with the Viks this season. As a setter, she ranks second on the team for assists, with 18, averaging 2.57 a game over the course of five on-court appearances. She came in to the third game during Friday퀌_s loss to EWU to get one more assist. So far Stevens has two digs on the year. During last month퀌_s pre-conference action, the sophomore recorded 11 assists at the Army Preseason Tournament. Stevens picked up six more assists and one dig at the Nike Portland Pilot Preview.

Middle hitter Morin hails from Ashland,Ore., where she was a standout for Ashland High School. After hitting the court for seven matches, Morin (7-1-22) is hitting .273 percent. She earned a kill and attempted five attacks during the EWU loss. Morin recorded five strong kills, 14 attacks and one dig during the Army tournament. She picked up an additional kill and her first recorded block against Chicago State at the Nike tournament.
