The Vanguard won 21 awards at the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association collegiate newspaper contest on Friday, including six first place awards and a second place award in the top category, General Excellence.
The ONPA collegiate newspaper contest recognizes excellence in college print media at all of Oregon’s state universities and community colleges. The 17 schools that won awards were divided into three different categories. The Vanguard, The Daily Emerald at University of Oregon and The Daily Barometer at Oregon State University competed in the Division 1 category: daily newspapers at four-year colleges or universities.
The Daily Emerald also received 21 awards, including first place in General Excellence, the highest award in the competition. The Daily Barometer received 10 awards. The Vanguard also won seven second place awards and eight honorable mention awards.
