As president of Portland State University, Daniel Bernstine represents the summit of decision-making on the campus. Since appointed president Aug. 1, 1997, he has guided the university through enormous expansions in facilities, enrollment and “international prestige.”
Bernstine came to PSU after seven years as dean of the University of Wisconsin Law School. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 1969 and has graduate degrees in law from Northwestern University and the University of Wisconsin.
Bernstine has emphasized community outreach throughout his tenure. He is the former chair of the board of directors of the Urban League of Portland and a director of the Chamber of Commerce and United Way, among other civic responsibilities. His executive offices are located at 341 Cramer Hall.
