According to Joe Francis, producer of the Girls Gone Wild video series, apparently no one can live without sex. The LA Daily News reported on Jan. 8 that Francis, along with Larry Flynt, creator of Hustler magazine, requested a $5 billion bailout from the federal government due to the weakening economy.
In a recent press release, Francis claimed, “the government’s handing out money to the auto industry, why shouldn’t it hand some to an industry the nation could not live without?” While the satire doesn’t escape me, the audacity of these men coupled with the fact that they may be taken seriously doesn’t make the situation any better.
Now, I’m not an expert on the adult entertainment industry but I highly doubt that people who are dealing with lost jobs, the decline of the economy and tough situations in general are going to die because they might get the latest issue of Hustler or Playboy a week late because the porn industry has declined in its profits in the last couple of years.
This may be a reality check to some people like Francis and Flynt, as they make millions each year by exploiting others. In a recent interview, Flynt told CNN that “people are too depressed to be sexually active. This is very unhealthy as a nation. Americans can do without cars and such but they cannot do without sex.
With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind. It’s time for Congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America. The only way they can do this is by supporting the adult industry and doing it quickly.”
Honestly Flynt, are you kidding me? People are not going to die without purchasing sex products. People will die because they can’t afford food to support their family and homes to live in. The nation is in need of products that have the ability to sustain their livelihoods and survival, not sustain their libidos.
The sole fact that the porn industry had the guts to request funds from taxpayer dollars and compare itself with useful industries that are costing Americans two million jobs, shows how little the adult entertainment industry understands the actual difficult circumstances the American people are facing right now.
Comparing itself to the auto industry is the one of the most disrespectful things I can imagine. The auto industry isn’t a shining beacon of morality and positive progress for the nation, but at least the auto industry can produce useful cars people can drive, or sleep in when they cannot afford to pay mortgage on their homes.
Sex will not drive people to work and school everyday.
More so, the bailout for the auto industry will at least be worth more than being able to cure your depression by looking at naked girls on TV. If that’s the way you cure your depression maybe you need to see a psychiatrist.
The $5 billion requested by the porn industry can go toward helping people obtain valuable education or stable jobs. Instead of surviving by pole dancing at a strip club when you are 22, this money can educate you and prepare you for a job that will still need your services at age 40. I am certain you did not graduate with honors in hopes of becoming the next porn star, at least I hope not.
Regardless of what the porn industry does for you, I find it completely crazy that Francis and Flynt would even ask for a bailout. If they really were in a bad financial situation, like they say they are, why don’t they just move in with “The Hef”? I thought he had a mansion?
