Women’s golf
Another year, another title. So it goes for the now three-time defending champion Vikings women’s golf team.
Coach Felicia Johnston earned her third straight Big Sky Coach of the Year award and seniors Sarah Tiller and Jeana Lee led the Viks to a 24-2 record against Big Sky schools and a wire-to-wire victory in the Big Sky Championship.
The Vikings went on to compete in the NCAA West Regional but were overmatched and finished last in 21st place.
While not as dominant as last year’s championship team, which went undefeated against the Big Sky, the Vikings floated high above the conference competition.
Tiller and Lee both wrapped up stellar four-year careers by stepping up to fill the hole left by last year’s conference player of the year, departed senior Rebecca Randolph. Tiller earned Big Sky Player of the Year honors for leading the conference in scoring (77.0) and being named Player of the Week five times. Lee joined Tiller on the All-Big Sky Conference first team and led the team in scoring in three tournaments.
Haley Brown earned a spot on the All-Conference second team with the best freshman season in Portland State women’s golf history. Brown is one of five golfers returning next year when the team tries to tie the Big Sky record for straight conference titles.
