Attorney linked to Spain attacks released
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) An American lawyer who was arrested two weeksago in connection with the terror attacks in Spain was set freeThursday after evidence pointed to another suspect in the deadlytrain bombings.

Brandon Mayfield, 37, was released soon after Spanish officialssaid fingerprints found on a bag near the bombing site were that ofan Algerian. U.S. authorities had previously said the prints wereMayfield’s. The bag contained detonators similar to those used inthe March 11 blasts, which killed 191 people and injured 2,000others.

Iraqi police raid home of Pentagon ally
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) Iraqi police backed by American soldiers raidedthe home and offices of Ahmad Chalabi, a prominent Iraqi politicianonce groomed by the Pentagon as a possible replacement for SaddamHussein. The operation confirmed a growing rift between the UnitedStates and the former exile just six weeks before the return ofIraqi sovereignty. Two members of the U.S.-appointed IraqiGoverning Council, of which Chalabi is a key member, said they wereconsidering resigning in protest over the raid.

Urban planning guru speaks at PSU
Jane Jacobs, an urban planner and economist who wrote thegroundbreaking “The Death and Life of Great American Cities” in1961 will visit PSU this Saturday.

Jacobs, who is promoting her new book, “Dark Age Ahead,” willtake part in an informal conversation and coffee with EthanSeltzer, director of PSU’s School of Urban Studies and Planning,and Randy Gragg, architecture critic for the Oregonian.

The free event will be in SMSU room 327/329 from 11 a.m. to 1p.m.

Student government plays houseless
Members of student government and OSPIRG are sponsoring a sleepoverthat is intended to simulate the living conditions of the homeless.The event organizers stated goal is to teach the participants byexample the difficulties of living without shelter or amenities.Participants are asked not to bring certain luxuries likeflashlights and valuables. Students will spend the night on thesouthern tennis courts adjacent to Shattuck Hall Thursday night,May 27, beginning at 7 p.m. and will proceed the following day to afood kitchen.
