Letter to the editor
This is in response to Lew Church’s April 16 criticism of Katie Harman as commencement speaker. Of the three alternative suggestions Mr. Church makes, one is an actor, two are authors. All of these figures are older than 50, and one of them, Ken Kesey, is dead (Nov. 10, 2001). Ms. Harman is not acting someone else’s words, or sitting alone making up stories or rotting in a grave. This year she is traveling all over the world representing America, Oregon and PSU. I can think of no better choice for commencement speaker than that.
