Accidental’ death in student housing

A man died of a drug overdose in student housing over spring break.

George Gilbert Gunderson, 33, was reported unresponsive in a call to police at 12:48 p.m. March 24. He was dead when officers arrived, said Portland Chief Deputy Medical Examiner Rob Boggs.

Gunderson was the live-in boyfriend of a tenant of 1110 S.W. Clay. The apartment complex is managed by College Housing Northwest and is occupied by both Portland State students and low-income residents. Neither Gunderson nor the resident were PSU students.

“As far as we know, this was accidental, not intentional,” said Dennis McCauliff, director of housing operations at College Housing Northwest.

Portland Police do not believe any foul play was involved.
