Unfortunately for those in the Portland State athletics circle, a chubby, bearded man with rose-colored cheeks and a heavy red jacket forgot to stop by the Stott Center to ask what everyone wanted for Christmas this year.
Well, once again, the Vanguard will pick up St. Nick’s slack, as we put a few Vikings players, coaches and one administrator on our proverbial lap to ask the hard questions:
- If you could have any gift this year, what would it be?
- What is the best Christmas gift you have ever received?
- What is the best Christmas gift you have ever given someone else?
Here are the highlights.
Torre Chisholm, athletic director
If you could have any gift this year, what would it be?
“Championships in every sport.”
Jerry Glanville, football head coach
What is the best Christmas gift you have ever given someone else?

Tracy Vargas, freshman middle blocker
If you could have any gift this year, what would it be?
“To beat Washington on Friday and make it to the second round of the tournament.”
Tygue Howland, junior quarterback
What is the best Christmas gift you have ever received?
“One year I got a new bike–it was a Huffy … I think I got it in the third grade. That was a big deal.”
Ken Bone, men’s basketball head coach
What is the best Christmas gift you have ever received?
“When I was a kid, I received a rubber ball every year. And that’s all I ever wanted from about 5 to 15.”
