Lights, camera, still no action for Viking Vision

Portland State’s media-centric student group Viking Vision is scaling back its resources, after initially requesting and then rescinding a $3,500 budget request from the Student Fee Committee for the 2008-09 academic year.

Spotlight Athlete of the week

There are 338 teams in Division I women’s basketball. Each of those teams has a point guard, commonly referred to as the floor general because she distributes the ball to facilitate her team’s offense.

A ‘rebirth year’

Portland State’s crew team is dedicated to their sport, enough so that the scrappy group of rowers isn’t above making sandwiches out of leftover spaghetti, which they did at a competition in Sacramento last year when their funds ran out.

Press Play – Album Reviews

Playing a rote indie sound, and incorporating even parts rectified guitars and feedback whines, droning and semi-offensive, quasi-clever lyrics, bland bass and percussion work, The Wagner Logic sounds like the musical effort of any given teenage basement band. That seems to be the sound they are after, though whether it’s purposeful, ironic hipness or just plain lack of talent remains to be seen. Easiest to Grab is nothing more than weak Beatles emulation.

Bad-ass dinosaurs

Last night there was a giant dinosaur in the Rose Garden. The children were screaming. Enter Walking With Dinosaurs: The Live Experience, an educational, theatrical show with giant animatronic dinosaurs, currently ripping up the floors of the Blazers’ home arena on an extended tour of North America.

Go-Bama!

With a few state caucuses under our belt, Democrats are boiling down the options for their next presidential candidate. To the voting Democrat, it is becoming evident that two options are championing their way for consideration, and with no offense to Mr. John Edwards (who so far has come in third), the choice is between Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama.

A response from Food for Thought

In response to the recent article “Food for thought” [Jan. 16]. First, let me thank you for recognizing the genius of our vegan baker, as well as the tastiness of our light and fluffy mashed potatoes. The splashy layout of the article is also much appreciated–I don’t think I’ve ever seen our bagel case look more appealing. There are, however, a few things that the café needs to clear up.

ASPSU asks for more say in OSA

PSU student government representatives are asking that the Oregon Student Association alter its internal processes so that larger schools, such as Portland State, will have greater voting power than smaller schools. The proposal has been met with some criticism.
