The Portland Trail Blazers beat the Minnesota Timberwolves handily on Saturday night, notching an emphatic 109-94 win over their Northwest Division rivals. Damian Lillard scored 24 points to lead the team, while J.J. Hickson contributed another double-double with 18 points and 16 rebounds.
Timbers take the pitch
The Portland Timbers left Jeld-Wen Field with a 1-1 draw against the Swedish club AIK on Saturday in the last game of their preseason schedule. The team finished with a record of 3-2-2 and now look to the season opener, which is scheduled for this coming Sunday at home versus the New York Red Bulls.
Vikings come close at the Big Sky Championship
After an exciting indoor track and field season, Portland State went to the Big Sky Championship and matched their best finish ever, coming in second place as a team in Montana. It was the best result for the Vikings at the conference championship meet since a second-place showing in 2006.

The track and field indoor season is coming to a close, as Portland State has only one meet left before the Big Sky Championships. The Vikings had last weekend off to prepare for the meet, which will take place in Bozeman, Mont., on Friday and Saturday.

Sitting near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings and in the midst of a 12-game losing streak, the Orlando Magic looked to be the perfect opponent for the Trail Blazers on Sunday. Portland was coming off consecutive losses to the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets, and seemed ready to get back on track against a reeling Magic squad.
