Track and field gets set for Big Sky meet

Competing at the Pacific Twilight meet in Forest Grove, the Portland State track and field squad showed why they will be tough to handle at the Big Sky Championships next week, with several first-place finishes. The team prepares to compete at the same site this coming weekend.

Mayfield goes coast to coast

Almost 3,000 miles separated Portland State junior Camelia Mayfield from her home in Oregon last year. Mayfield is originally from Ashland, but moved east after high school to attend the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Almost at the finish line

After competing in Berkeley, Calif., at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational last weekend, the Portland State track and field squad has just one meet left before the Big Sky Conference Championships.

Closing in on Big Sky

In two weeks the track and field squad will head off to the Big Sky Championships, but they won’t have to travel very far. Portland State will host the conference meet for the first time May 8–11 in Forest Grove. With the outdoor season’s end in sight, the team is getting closer to their goal of being Big Sky champions.

Football on the horizon for PSU

Portland State football is already preparing for the 2013 schedule as spring practices have begun for next season. The Vikings have announced that they will hold their annual spring game at Evergreen High School in Vancouver on May 18. The season will start up again in September with a matchup against the University of California, Berkeley, on the road. PSU’s first Big Sky meeting comes against the University of California, Davis, two games later, followed by a nationally televised game at home against California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, on Sept. 26. The Mustangs are coming off a year in which they went 9-3 in the regular season, earned a playoff berth and beat the Vikings 37-25 in their matchup last season.

Track and field shines in Salem

Early season success continued for the Portland State track and field squad at the Willamette Invite over the weekend, as nine athletes came through with qualifying times for the Big Sky Conference Championship in Forest Grove next month.

A solid start for track and field

It’s still early in the outdoor season, but the Portland State track and field squad is off to a promising start. The Vikings sent athletes to two events over the weekend, competing at the Texas Relays in Austin and the Stanford Invite in California.
