PSU cycling rolls into spring
Cycling is important to Portland State. The university, set in an urban environment, has attracted cyclists interested in both sports and practicality. The Vikings came out of the Kajikawa Classic with two wins and three losses, including a shutout 9-0 victory over Cal Poly. The team lost some crucial seniors coming into the season, but strong returners and up-and-coming new players present a strong roster for 2012. Picked first in pre-season division rankings, the Vikings hope to come out strong and repeat their win in the division and conference championships last year.
Bengals crush Vikings
The Portland State women’s basketball team fell Saturday to top-ranked Idaho State. The Bengals (19-6, 11-2 in conference) beat the Vikings in nearly all categories, most notably defense. Outrebounded, the Vikings were unable to keep the Bengals’ runs in check.
A shining senior
In her junior season, guard Eryn Jones amazed Viking fans when she became the first Portland State women’s basketball player to be awarded MVP in the Big Sky Conference. Since then, the now-senior has struggled with injuries that have limited her record-breaking performances. Despite that, she still remains a leader for her team. As the point guard nears the end of her collegiate career, she said it hasn’t hit her that this really is the last season.
