Lectures and activities help educators teach Iranian history and politics

On Friday Aug. 5, the Middle East Studies Center (MESC) hosted an all-day lecture event for Oregon K–12 teachers.
The event, “People, Power and Protest,” focused on preparing educators to teach about history and politics in the Middle East.

Every summer, swarms of children can be seen picnicking in the park blocks, riding the MAX and playing in fountains around downtown Portland. Thanks to the Helen Gordon Child Development Center (HGCDC) at Portland State, children of PSU faculty and students experience these summer activities while their parents are working or attending classes.

PSU students hit American Idol

Scholars tried out as singers Saturday at the first Idol auditions in Portland and didn’t make callbacks, but gained experience

Auditions for Season 11 of the TV sensation American Idol arrived last Saturday at the Rose Garden Arena. Students from Portland State joined the masses waiting in line before daylight that morning. The seats inside the arena were packed with Idol hopefuls and their friends and family members.
Kaitlyn McAllister, who graduated in June from Henley High School in Klamath Falls and plans to attend PSU in September, traveled to Portland with her mother.
