Bernstine vying for position in West Virginia

Portland State President Daniel Bernstine is one of three finalists for the president’s job at West Virginia University.The Oregonian reported Thursday morning that Bernstine was approached by a West Virginia search committee and did not seek the opening. Bernstine told the newspaper that he is interested in the job at WVU job because the school, like PSU, has had challenges in expanding research and raising money.Bernstine will be vying for the position against lawyer Michael S. Garrison, managing member of the Morgantown, W.V., office of Spilman Thomas & Battle, and M. Duane Nellis, provost of Kansas State University.Bernstine had left the office Thursday afternoon and was unavailable for comment.Bernstine has been at Portland State for nearly 10 years. The three candidates will meet with students, staff and faculty at WVU during the week of April 2 to 5 and during the week of April 9.
