Chenault receives conference honors

After leading the Vikings to a 33-21 victory over Montana State on Saturday, Portland State freshman Nick Chenault was named Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

In his first PSU career start, Chenault had a PSU season high 15 tackles, including one for loss. He also made two interceptions, broke up a third pass and forced a fumble in the game.

Three weeks ago Chenault was the third-string strong safety and last season was a redshirt wide receiver. Because of injuries, Chenault has seen more playing time at defensive back.

Despite the absence of five starters, Chenault led a Viking defense that played perhaps its best game of the year, forcing six turnovers.
