Engineering College gets new associate dean

The Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science at Portland State named Dan Hammerstrom associate dean for research March 16.

Hammerstrom, currently a professor in the college’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was one of 11 transplants from Oregon Health and Science University’s OGI School of Science and Engineering to the Maseeh College in fall 2004. At OHSU, Hammerstrom chaired OGI’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering from July 1997 to December 2001.

The College of Engineering and Computer Science has become a prominent flagship program at PSU since receiving an $8 million donation from PSU alumnus Dr. Fariborz Maseeh last March. The donation was the largest donated sum in PSU history, and is contributing to the construction of a new building for the college on Southwest Fourth Street.

As associate dean for research, Hammerstrom will be charged with increasing the sophistication of research at the Maseeh College and handling research relationships with the technology industry.
