Holiday Party. Students, staff, faculty and members of the PSU community are invited to participate in a celebration of peace at this annual event. There will be a short program, caroling and a performance by the PSU Community Chorus, refreshments and prizes drawings for contributors to PSU’s Gifts-For-Kids drive. Holiday in Tiber. PSU’s Institute for Asian Studies invites you to a concert by Aaron Meyer and Nowika Music. The performance will feature several holiday songs performed by twelve Tibetan dancers and the Tibetan Children’s Choir in traditional costumes, as well as holiday music performed by Aaron and his band. No charge for admission. Performance in Smith Memorial Center Ballroom room 355.

Community Musicians come together for annual ‘soul-filled Messiah’ concerts. Portland’s gospel tribute to Handel’s “Messiah.” Scores of performances including local gospel diva Marilyn Keller, jazz keyboardist Darrell Grant and rousing gospel choir consisting of Choral Cross-Ties, the PSU Chamber Choir, Mount Hood Community College Choir and Disciples in Songs. “Master Harold … and the boys” by internationally renowned playwright Athol Fugard. The play is a confessional drama about a white adolescent’s abuse of his power in a racially mixed friendship in the apartheid society of South Africa circa 1950. The Family Center Outreach, a program of Volunteers of America, has opened their doors in Southeast Portland to provide services to women and their children who are survivors of domestic violence. The Bradley-Angle House is looking for volunteers to work its 24-hour crisis line, staff emergency shelter and transitional houses, work with children’s groups and serve on the board of directors. They are also seeking volunteers to do administrative and maintenance work. The Bradley-Angle House provides quality service for women and children of all races, religions, sexual orientations, ages and backgrounds. Shelter/Domestic Violence Resource Center is looking for caring individuals to volunteer and make a difference in the lives of women and children.
