Not to worry: The Vanguard is here to help. Here’s a list of hotels in the area, including the most economical options for those who have already spent more than enough cash on student fees.

Econo Lodge
1889 S.W. Fourth Ave.
Here’s an inexpensive option. Not a whole lot of amenities, but the location cannot be beat. This hotel is only three blocks from the heart of campus; the base rate is $95.

The Downtown Value Inn
415 S.W. Montgomery St.
This is another good option for those on a tight budget, and is also in a great location. This hotel is on Southwest Montgomery Street between Fourth and Fifth avenues, right next to the PSU Bookstore and the Portland Streetcar. Go to the Blind Onion Pizza and Pub on the ground floor of the building in the event of munchies; the base rate is $75.

Portland Inn City Center
1414 S.W. Sixth Ave.
This hotel is still very close to campus, but closer to the excitement of downtown. Located at Southwest Sixth Avenue and Columbia Street, this four-story hotel has wireless Internet, and a restaurant and bar. Parking costs a fee, though pets are allowed; the base rate is $109.

The Hilton Portland and Executive Tower
921 S.W. Sixth Ave.
For those who want a step up, Hilton is a name associated with quality. Located on Southwest Sixth Avenue between Salmon and Taylor streets, this hotel has everything you would expect from a Hilton, including an exercise room. Pets are allowed; the base rate is $179.

Shilo Inn Rose Garden
1506 N.E. Second Ave.
Located just across the Willamette River, this hotel is a little farther from campus, but is very close to the MAX Light Rail. There is free high-speed Internet in the rooms, and a free continental breakfast. Pets are allowed; the base rate is $89.

The Portland Central Thriftlodge
949 E. Burnside St.
This place is an inexpensive option, though it will require some driving to get to campus. Located at East Burnside Street and Ninth Avenue, it is still close to downtown, as well as many central eastside attractions. There is a pool and free wireless Internet. Base rate is $66.

The Travelodge
2401 S.W. Fourth Ave.
Located on Southwest Fourth Avenue between Caruthers and Sheridan Street, this hotel is at a convenient destination, right next to campus on the other side of Interstate 405. This hotel has free Internet, a restaurant and bar, free parking, and is right next to a large YMCA exercise facility; the base rate is $99.

The Sixth Avenue Motel
2221 S.W. Sixth Ave.
The Sixth Avenue is also right across I-405, on Southwest Sixth Avenue between Broadway and Sherman Street. This hotel offers basic amenities and boasts an excellent location within walking distance of the PSU campus; the base rate is $55.

The University Place Hotel
310 SW Lincoln St.
Owned by PSU and located very close to campus on Southwest Lincoln Street between First and Fourth avenues. The hotel has many amenities, including high speed Internet and a swimming pool. Base rate is $89 for parents of PSU students, or $79 for students.

Having an AAA or AARP membership will get you discounts at most hotels. Discounts can also be found by making reservations online.
