Oregon Army National Guard unit deployed to Iraq

SALEM, Ore. – Another Oregon Army National Guard unit has been tapped to serve in Iraq.

The 3,670th Maintenance Company, based out of Camp Withycombe in Clackamas, will mobilize 72 of Oregon’s national guardsmen and women.

The unit specializes in heavy equipment and construction equipment maintenance and repair. They will mobilize Feb. 5, then train at Fort Bliss in Texas for a brief period before deployment.

The unit may be sent to Kirkush.

This mobilization brings the total number of Oregon’s citizen-soldiers that have been mobilized to more than 1,600.

Of the mobilized soldiers, about 1,250 are on duty in Iraq, nearly 50 are on duty at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and another 15 are on duty in Afghanistan. The remaining soldiers are in training or preparing to deploy.
