The Students United for Palestinian Equal Rights (SUPER) has organized an evening photo exhibit and advocacy event to spread information about the plight of the Palestinian people.
The exhibit will be held in Smith Memorial Student Union Parkway North (room 101) this evening from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Wael Elasady, a founding member of SUPER, explained that the event looks to bring awareness about al-Nakba, or the impact the creation of Israel in 1948 had on the Palestinian people, and the subsequent violence over the past half-century.
“We are going to have a photo gallery of pictures spanning all the way back to al-Nakba and up to the recent invasion of Gaza,” Elasady said.
Additionally there will be olive oil tasting, traditional Palestinian dresses on display and a variety of artisan crafts made in the West Bank and Gaza for sale. Elasady said that all the proceeds from the event will go toward the Gaza relief fund.
“It is a commemoration of the 60 years of dispossession of the Palestinian people through different cultural artifacts,” Elasady said.
