Students trapped in elevator

An elevator broke down yesterday in the Smith Memorial Student Union, trapping three students for 15 minutes.

Amber Perez and her friend Dominique Ornelas were going from the fourth floor to the first when the elevator dropped a bit and stopped just above the first floor.

“We were banging on the door for awhile,” said Amber Perez, “we pressed a button for help.”

Ornelas tried prying open the door with some keys but they broke.

“We just wanted to get lunch,” said Ornelas.

A male student who was in the elevator managed to pry the elevator doors apart, the three of them stepping out into the much cooler hallway.

Perez and Ornelas finally went to lunch as planned, albeit 15 minutes later.

Don Springer from PSU Facilities arrived shortly afterwards to inspect the problem.
