Stumptown showdown
After dominating the Big Sky Conference for nearly a month, Portland State (13-4, 7-0) will look to continue its solid play Tuesday night, as they take on the University of Portland Pilots (7-10, 0-3 West Coast Conference) at the Stott Center at 7 p.m.
The teams, both in the middle of their regular season conference schedule, will play for the second time this season. The Pilots took the first match in five games back in September and beat the Vikings last year as well.
Head coach Michael Seemann is expecting a better performance from his team this time around.
“We felt we could have played better (when we played them the first time), and we have worked on our offense in preparation for this game,” Seemann said.
Should the Stott Center continue to be unfriendly to opponents, the Vikings will extend their current home winning streak to 17 matches. In fact, the Vikings’ last loss at home was Sept. 2, 2006, when the University of Connecticut beat them.
Seemann and his team will look for support from the home crowd.
“The crowd was great, and it is so fun to play in this kind of environment,” Seemann said following the Eastern Washington match on Friday. “Hopefully we can get that kind of support against Portland.”
