Here are what several people close to the team said about the season and the future of Viking football.

Mouse Davis, offensive coordinator

Initial thoughts:

I thought we made improvements every week until we got to Idaho State, I thought we took a little step back. But we did play well enough to lead the nation in passing. That’s something you can hang your hat on.

We still need to improve the overall package. A lot of the kids will continue to get better.

On fan support:

I think that’s a great thing. We had a couple of ballgames that we did not win that were exciting spectator things. I’ve had a number of people say they are excited about the strides we’ve made and they’re looking forward to next year, and I hope that’s true.

Jerry Glanville, head coach

The outcome:

I thought we would have had more wins. We got better, but we had to reload so quickly because of the injuries. The bottom line is we got to win more games. We can’t just play well and compete.

On recruiting:

First, we’re going to look at three states: Oregon, Washington and California. You leave if you don’t get what you want there. We’re going to sell the city as well as the school. If you don’t do well (in recruiting) you don’t do well on game day.

Torre Chisholm, athletic director

On attendance:

It’s great. We’re thrilled at the increase in terms of season tickets, overall attendance, the great atmosphere at the games. It had a great collegiate football feel, and we want to cultivate that going into future years.

On the season:

I think it’s very memorable. I think there were a lot of interesting things to talk about. PSU football caught the interest of the campus and the community.

Future plans:

We’re going to focus on increasing our season tickets. Our tentative goal is to increase that to 25 percent to 5,000 using a focus on the corporate community and special incentive renewal plans.

Tremayne Kirkland, senior wide receiver and team MVP

How things went:

The season was a disappointment as far as the outcome. We never really anticipated being 3-8. But just as far as experience, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It was a big disappointment not making the playoffs.

Best moment:

Maybe that Sac State game, I thought we were heading in the right direction. I thought that was going to be a launching point for a positive season, but it didn’t pan out that way.

Going pro:

I’m going to try to graduate this term, and in about two weeks I’m going to start training for the [NFL] combine.

I’ve been waiting for this moment for a while. I’m just hoping I did enough things during the season to get some scouts to look at me. I’m just looking for some new goals I can set for myself, looking forward to closing the college chapter and opening the professional chapter, if I can.
